Head Skis

It’s winter 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. A young aeronautical engineer named Howard Head has been working after feverously for the last 2 years to create what he calls a game changer in the ski world. Skis of the era were typically made of wood laminate but Howard was determined to introduce the use of aluminum and plastic laminate’s he was using by day making fuselages.

Introducing the Head Standard, skiing’s longest lasting and easiest turning ski of its time. Sales rapidly grew through out the 1950’s and by the 1960’s Head had captured more than 50% of US ski market with the Standard, which made them the ing ski manufacturer in both the U.S.A and the UK. By the end of the 1960’s Howard Head had become bored with the results of his ski division and sold the company to AMF, American Machine and Foundry. In 1969 Head introduced the Killy 800, a metal and fiberglass ski, that was endorsed by then Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy.

Today the Head brands spans across all sorts of different markets including Racket Sports like Tennis, Squash and Racquetball on top of their Ski and Snowboard divisions. With models like the Monster Series and Joy Series Head has continued to be some of the top selling ski’s in the Whistler market. We offer the Monster 88, Instinct, Total joy and Absolute Joy in our rental fleet.
